Pivot

Strange times, pivoting required, going forth with positive vibes.

What a year so far! All of us have stories of how life has been so different over the past months.  As a small business very reliant on a steady stream of tourists to Alaska, this has put the brakes on sales for me and Bearberry Designs.

So, now's the time to think outside the box and finally join an online selling platform in a purposeful way.  I would like folks to feel like we can still share that good feeling of connecting with makers and each other, and I'm looking forward to learning this process.  Bear with me as I go.

I have made one attempt to use a stand-alone website, but the joys of living far away from town bring along the lack of good internet connectivity.  So, I am putting that independent site on hold for now and rejoining the community at Etsy.  They are very easy to work with on a mobile platform, simple to download photos, and fun to search around for cool stuff among a group of makers making the best of what life has to offer right now.

So, all of this is to say, my shop is still a work in progress, but I look forward to seeing you soon on Etsy! Will keep you posted when the store has its grand opening--

Stay safe and well, everyone--  :)

Arctic Gatherings

Creating the palette and fabrics for this piece was a journey of learning and skill-building.  My husband inspired me with his sketches of the place and the moment I wanted to capture, and after yards of new fabrics with many trials of colors and surface design techniques, I arrived at this. It gives me the feeling I was after, and my husband seems OK with it, too.

This piece and two others of mine will be part of Art in the Arctic, a show of six artists’ work representing the importance of migratory birds in northern Alaska National Wildlife Refuges.  It opens tonight at Venue, downtown Fairbanks, Alaska.
