Mrs. Moody’s thread cupboard

The things that cost nothing can mean everything. Mrs. Moody’s thread cupboard is one of those. My mother was given a sewing cabinet with six small drawers. She brought it to a cabinet maker who turned those drawers and part of the cabinet top into a sweet piece of furniture that holds my thread, color sorted. I almost once got rid of this little gem in a moment of overwhelm. And I’m so glad I resisted. A sense of comfort, friends of old, connecting generations and centuries. And wood, the trees, their stories buried deep in the grain. And the original sewing cupboard maker(s), in a smoky city? A brick factory? Going home at the end of the day to family, peace, and all natural fibers in the kitchen, and closets. Some tales float into the air from this humble bit of furniture that sits quietly under my workshop table.  Thank you, little one, for keeping me company.

Seasons

The arc of summer is making its way to fall, which brings thoughts of mountainsides covered with bright red bearberry leaves. I don’t want to rush it, but I am looking forward to it.

Triple Musk Ox

Fulfilling a special request by making a musk ox pillow--and deciding to cut pieces for a couple more while I'm at it. The best part is putting the eyes, nose and mouth in place. That's when they come alive and start grinning back at me. I have departed Meta (Facebook and Instagram), so if you'd like to connect, please feel free to reach out here. I'd love to hear what you're working on. Cheers!

Starting out the year

I am departing Meta and hope to find kindred spirits in other ways, online and in person. Here is a simple start to the year by working on making felted pincushions using a found wool sweater and some of my mom's roving stash. Be kind to yourself and make something. Feel free to get in touch and share what you're working on.
